Camila Cabello And Shawn Mendes’ Full Relationship History

Dear Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello: I Know What You Did At Coachella. Yup, everyone’s favorite PDA-friendly couple definitely looked really cozy at the music festival, and fans took note. This past weekend, the singers were spotted hanging out, dancing, and even kissing at the California-based event.

This is all happening a little over a year since the couple announced their split in November 2021 via Instagram, per US Weekly. Shawn and Camila’s Coachella reprise could just be a one-off thing, but no one would blame them if they wanted to rekindle the flame—they certainly have history and chemistry together.

So, whatever that kiss meant, here’s what you need to know about Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes’ entire relationship, from “I Know What You Did Last Summer” to the Coachella kiss.

Summer 2014: The pair meet while opening for Austin Mahone.

Ah yes, as perhaps the most 2014 collection of artists, Fifth Harmony and Shawn Mendes once toured with Austin Mahone (who Cabello actually dated that same year). Shawn was reportedly very isolated during this tour, but Camila was the only one who would speak to him, he said in the couples’ feature with V magazine.

“I didn’t talk to anybody. You were the only person that talked to me. Like, you were the only one of everybody on that tour who would say words to me,” Shawn said to Camila in V.

November 2015: They release their first duet.

Before there was “Señorita,” there was “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” the couples’ first song together. It appeared on Shawn’s debut album Handwritten. Fun fact: they wrote this song backstage at a Taylor Swift concert during her 1989 tour.

This was kind of a big deal, since Camila was still a member of Fifth Harmony at the time the song dropped. It was also the first time the pair spent a “significant time” together, per PEOPLE.

The pair reportedly wanted to make new versions of this song, too—including “I Know What You Did Last Winter” and “I Know What You Did Last Fall,” they told V. Luckily, their managers advised against it.

Although this was the first moment to spark relationship rumors, Camila told Rolling Stone in 2019 the song simply brought she and Shawn together as friends. “I am very lucky that we wrote the song because I also got a really good friendship out of that,” she told the publication.

November 2015: They deny dating.

In an appearance on the Late Late Show with James Corden, the couple confirmed they weren’t dating, despite releasing a duet together. James Corden asked if they were dating, point-blank, and the pair responded “No” in unison. James pressed the couple further, but neither confirmed a relationship, or even #feelings.

“That’s never going to happen,” Shawn said.

December 2015: Camila and Shawn share an adorable Instagram video.

Long before that infamous make-out video, Camila and Shawn shared a sweet clip together.

May 2017: Shawn showers Camila with Twitter compliments.

June 20, 2019: Camila and Shawn release “Señorita.”

The long-awaited collab was a massive hit and also marked the start of Camila and Shawn’s romance. It had been four years since their first time working on a song together, but this time, sparks actually flew.

“It was this awkward thing where we both liked each other, but we weren’t together,” Camila told Rolling Stone. “It was just weird. An energy was there from the beginning, but after that song, we didn’t spend as much time together. Our paths just didn’t cross in that way romantically until we started hanging out again and writing. For me, it just brought it back.”

June 25, 2019: Camila and boyfriend Matthew Hussey announce split.

If you listen to the steamy “Señorita” lyrics and watch Shawmila’s sizzling chemistry in the music video, this breakup comes as no surprise. Camila and the British relationship coach were together for 18 months before parting ways. They met in February 2018 on the set of Today and made their official red-carpet debut at Vanity Fair’s Oscars after-party in 2019. “He’s so similar to me,” Camila told Marie Claire. “In person, we’re just weird and silly and stupid together. He makes me the happiest I’ve ever been in my life.”

November 2021: They dress up together for Día De Los Muertos.

In one of her last pictures of Shawn on her Instagram (as a couple, at least) Camila shared a super sweet post of the couple celebrating Día De Los Muertos together.

ICYDK, Día De Los Muertos is a Mexican holiday that runs from November 1 to November 2, where families honor loved ones who have died through reunions and celebrations.

March 2023: Shawn denies dating Sabrina Carpenter.

After being spotted on a walk together in February 2023, rumors began circulating that Shawn and Sabrina Carpenter were an item, particularly after the Vanity Fair Oscar’s after party a month later.

Sabrina and Shawn were seen leaving moments apart from the party, but headed in opposite directions. A source told Entertainment Tonight at the time that the two singers were “seeing each other.” In an interview with RTL Boulevard promoting his Tommy Hilfiger collection, Shawn said this was not the case.

“We are not dating, but I think we should talk about Tommy Hilfiger probably more than Sabrina. But thank you,” Shawn told RTL Boulevard.

April 2023: Camila and Shawn are seen kissing at Coachella.

The exes got super friendly at the first weekend of Coachella 2023. Several photos from the event revealed that Camila and Shawn seemingly spent an entire day together at the music festival.

However, a source told Page Six that the kiss does not mean the pair are back together. Shawn and Camila reportedly planned to meet up at the festival, since they were both going. “One thing led to another as the night progressed,” the source told Page Six.

April 2023: Camila shares a new song hinting at the Coachella reunion.

Just days after the two were spotted getting cozy at Coachella, Camila shared a 20-second clip of a new song on her Instagram with the caption “4.12 💐.” The song is saved as “CC June Bloom,” and the lyrics are pretty telling.

“How come you’re just so much better/ Is this gunna end ever/ I guess I’ll f*ck around and find out/ Are you coming to Coachella/ If you don’t it’s whatever/ If you do, honey, it’ll be all I think about,” she sings.

Fans immediately lost it when they heard the Coachella reference, which hinted that the song was about Shawn. And while Camila hasn’t confirmed the rumors, it’s hard to assume it’s about anyone else, especially given Shawn and Camila’s track record for writing songs about one another.

More updates to come soon, but for now, all I’ll say is I’m definitely rooting for these two.
